One of the most common but significant tools that every DIYer must-have is a screwdriver. You probably are aware of its use but in case you don’t, it is an equipment that is available as both manual and power operated which is used for installing and removing screws.

Although, shopping for these may not be as simple as you think it is. There are screws and screwdrivers available in different sizes. You cannot just use whichever driver you want. While purchasing a screwdriver, you need to consider the suitable tip that fits its head.

Phillips Screwdriver

A Phillips screwdriver has a tip that looks like a cross which is why it is also known as a crosshead. You will find these drivers being used for fixing your furniture, home appliances, etc. Its key feature is that you can fix the screwdriver deep into the screw preventing the risk of the blade sliding out. Almost every person who owns a toolbox has a Phillips screwdriver.

Slotted Screwdriver

Before the other types of screwdrivers were introduced, a slotted driver was the one to use. The fastener head of this screwdriver only has one slot. Since it is more of a traditional driver, they aren’t preferred as much as other types. Besides, they cannot be completely relied upon as the screwdriver often slips out of the single slot that can cause damage to the screw and the screwdriver.

Torx Screwdriver

Unlike a Phillips or a slotted driver, Torx screwdrivers were initially manufactured to be used for vehicles, computers, hard drives, and other electronics. These have a star-shaped tip and provide extremely high torque as they can make a tighter grip on the screw. However, it does require some maintenance so f you have a Torx in your tool bag, you should take good care of it. Always clean this driver before using it for effective contact.

Pozidrive Screwdriver

Further, this type of screwdriver that is quite similar to a Phillips driver in terms of design comes with an additional 4 contact points and reduced angles. This allows a Pozidrive screwdriver to make a firmer grip on the screw making it an efficient choice. It has a blunt tip and small ribs among the blade. These are very less likely to slip out of the drive when using.

Robertson Screwdrivers

In this type of driver, there are no angles at all which means the grip is even stronger and the chances of the screwdriver slipping out are almost zero. A Robertson screwdriver is a square-shaped driver. This durable driver is mostly used in the automotive industries. It is a rare pick as compared to the others.
